Ash Wednesday, February 18, begins the season of Lent. We will have two services that day: noon and 6pm. Both services will have a Holy Eucharist and the Imposition of Ashes. Ash Wednesday is one of the two most solemn days of the church year - Good Friday being the other. We will mark the season of repentance with these and other changes:
-a change in color to purple - symbol of both penance and Christ’s sovereignty
-a big, ugly cross in front of the altar
-music often in minor or modal keys
-use of the Rite One liturgy, beginning with the Penitential Rite, in both services
-use of ceramic and wood vessels for Communion
-simpler coffee hours
All are welcome to join us for these services and the Lenten season.
